This week I will NOT write about the Adani saga. It is an unfolding one and we have a ringside view as we don’t have an interest in any of the stocks. And honestly, I am also a bit fatigued by the constant discussion on this topic.
I will delve into another aspect that was also in the headlines - chatGPT.
To understand what the underlying technology is and how it has come up to this point, this is a wonderful article from McKinsey.
AI adoption has more than doubled over the past five years, and investment in AI is increasing. It’s clear that generative AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E (a tool for AI-generated art) have the potential to change how a range of jobs are performed. You can see some amazing and quirky works of art generated by AI (DALL-E) to see how far AI-generated artwork has come.
And now from cutting-edge tech to philosophy - Korean philosophy, to be precise.
This excellent article discusses how to become wise.
We interpret our lives through a continual stream of thoughts, and so we become what we think, or rather how we think. As our daily lives are shaped by our thoughts, so our experience of this reality is good or bad – depending on our thoughts – which make things ‘appear’ good or bad because, in ‘reality’, things in and of themselves are devoid of their own independent nature. This self-interpreted reality has a temporary existence only as long as the thoughts and perceptions shaping it remain.
Thought of the Week:
“There isn’t a single formula. You need to know a lot about business and human nature and the numbers…It is unreasonable to expect that there is a magic system that will do it for you.”
~ Charlie Munger
Acquiring knowledge is hard work. It's reading and adding to your knowledge so it compounds. It's going deep and developing fluency, something Darwin knew well.
Video of the Week: A conversation with Charlie Munger
Charlie Munger is my go-to person for distilling wisdom. And it is rare to get videos of his talks. This is one such. The audio is slightly poor but worth persisting just for the knowledge he shares.
