Results for CY2023
We closed CY2023 on a good note. The results, like every year in the past, were better than the index. Quiver, our smallcase strategy, managed to perform the best. Again, that has been the norm in the last couple of years since we launched Quiver.
Note: The performance is taken from smallcase, a third-party independent system. Please note that past performance is NOT an indicator of future performance and it is best to assume that good performance is not likely to be repeated consistently.

Weekly rest is as important as work
Weekly rest is not about taking a break from the world around us, but instead about experiencing the joys of the world to come. It aims to make the current moment more holy, not to render future moments more efficient.
Work is important and good. Did God not labour for six days of creation before resting on the seventh? But it’s not everything. When slowing down the pace of our efforts we must, if only occasionally, sidestep instrumentality. Doing less should sometimes be about enjoying the beauty of right now.

Seawood as a food source after a nuclear war
An abrupt sunlight reduction scenario like a nuclear winter could reduce sunlight and harm agriculture. Seaweed is a promising food source for such events because it can grow quickly in many conditions. We studied the growth of seaweed globally using a model based on one type of seaweed and found that it could provide an equivalent of up to 45% of the world's food in 9–14 months. The main challenge is building new seaweed farms quickly enough. The growth of seaweed actually increases after a nuclear war, because more nutrients become available in the ocean. This means seaweed has the potential to be a reliable food source in case of abrupt sunlight reduction.
Thought of the Week
Too much reading robs the mind of all elasticity, as the continual pressure of a weight does a spring, and the surest way of never having any thoughts of your own is to pick up a book every time you have a free moment. The practice of doing this is the reason erudition makes most men duller and sillier than they are by nature and robs their writings of all effectiveness: they are in Pope's words: Forever reading, never to be read.
~ Arthur Schopenhauer
