Weight loss overtakes luxury!!
The top corporates in the US are technology companies. In fact, nearly all the buzz in the US is around companies which are related to tech. Move across the Atlantic Ocean and you see a stark difference. Europe has more companies making luxury brands than the US including fashion, automobiles, watches etc.
In this backdrop, Novo Nordisk, the Danish drugmaker has dethroned Bernard Arnault’s luxury goods giant LVMH as Europe’s most valuable company.
Shares of the company have soared 40% so far this year, boosted by an explosion in demand for its weight-loss drugs Wegovy and Ozempic.

BYD overtakes Tesla
BYD is itself a trailblazer. The company only began making cars in 2003 and was one of the first to use electric power trains and phase out purely gas-powered models. As the world shifts to EVs, that strategy is paying off. In the first quarter of 2023, BYD was responsible for 12% of all passenger car sales in China, ending Volkswagen’s 15-year reign as the country’s most popular car brand. If you include plug-in hybrid vehicles, BYD is already the world’s best-selling EV company.
Now, BYD is trying to expand that success beyond China’s borders. Since 2021, the company has launched models in 52 markets, invested in factories and a lithium processing facility abroad, and acquired an entire fleet of cargo ships to deliver those cars around the world.
This article documents how BYD is going about its journey to conquer the automotive world.

Accelerated Learning for Life
I came across this article on how to have an accelerated learning curve in life. I probably liked it because it gels with what I do myself.
Approaching situations with the mindset that you know nothing is powerful as you enter them objectively, not subjectively. Our egos are not in the way. And an objective, measured (first principles) mindset is necessary for learning.
You need to not just be learning while at work or from others, you need to also be learning on your own. This is an opportunity to get out of your vertical and become exposed to others. Interesting results always happen at the intersection and again I can’t understate the importance of intersectionality. Read blogs, books and case studies on new areas. Explore the internet and libraries. Get books online and in local shops. Take MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Listen to podcasts and watch vlogs on subjects you know nothing about. Read research reports. Don’t close yourself off to knowledge because it is in formats of media that are unfamiliar.
Thoughts of the Week
With accomplishment comes a growing pressure to pretend that we know more than we do. To pretend we already know everything. Scientia infla (knowledge puffs up). That’s the worry and the risk—thinking that we’re set and secure, when in reality understanding and mastery is a fluid, continual process.
